The wheel chose

Need a random number and want everyone to see it picked? Choose a range, spin the wheel, and get a fair result. It suits raffles, classroom games and anything else that calls for a number.

How to use the number wheel

  1. Choose a range from the ready-made list, or type your own numbers in the box.
  2. Press Spin in the middle of the wheel.
  3. Read the number in the pop-up, and find every result so far in the Results tab.
  4. Tick Remove winner if each number should only come up once.

Who uses the Number Wheel

Raffles and prize draws

Give each ticket a number, then spin in front of the room so that people can watch the draw. Remove winner stops the same ticket from winning twice. For prizes of real value, check the rules that apply where you live.

Calling on students by number

Many teachers give each student a number. A spin picks who answers next, feels fair to the class, and avoids reading out names. Removing each number means that everyone gets a turn before anyone is called twice.

Games at home

Use the wheel for bingo-style games, for deciding how many steps to take, or as a stand-in for a missing spinner. Choose 1 to 20 or 1 to 100 when the game needs more than a die can give.

Maths warm-ups

Spin twice and ask the class to add, subtract or multiply the two numbers. It makes a quick starter for a lesson, and nobody knows what is coming next.

Choosing your range

The ready-made list sets the wheel to 1 to 10, 20, 50 or 100. For any other range, type the numbers you want into the box, one on each line. A spreadsheet can make a long sequence that you paste straight in.

Reading the wheel with many numbers

Up to 60 entries, each slice shows its number. Above that, the labels no longer fit, so the wheel hides them, and the chosen number appears in the pop-up. The draw is just as fair either way.

Numbers without repeats

  • Tick Remove winner to take each number out after it is chosen, which suits a raffle or a bingo-style game.
  • Set Winners above 1 to pick several numbers at once, with no repeats in that draw.
  • Leave both alone if a number should be able to come up again.

Number Wheel questions

Is every number equally likely?

Yes, as long as each number appears once. The result comes from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, and the wheel then spins to land on it. A number typed twice has twice the chance.

Can I use a range that is not on the list?

Yes. Delete what is in the box and type the numbers you want, one on each line. They do not need to be in order, or even to start at one.

How do I pick several numbers at once?

Raise the Winners setting and press Pick. The numbers are chosen together with no repeats in that draw, but the wheel does not spin for a group draw.

Why can I not see the numbers on the 1 to 100 wheel?

Above 60 entries the labels no longer fit on the slices, so the wheel hides them. The picking still works in the same way, and the pop-up shows your number clearly.

Is my list saved?

Your numbers are saved in this browser, so they are there when you return, and they are not uploaded. Press Reset to go back to the original 1 to 10.

Can I use this on a projector?

Yes. Press Full screen, and the wheel fills the display so that a whole room can watch it spin. Nothing needs to be installed, and no one needs an account.
